Anorectal surgery and anal abscesses

Anorectal abscess is basically the accumulation of pus and infection in the skin around the anus.
These abscesses may not seem dangerous, but if they are not treated, they can cause other side effects and diseases.

Anal abscess

There are many glands around the anorectal area. Various reasons can lead to blockage of the opening of these glands and this can cause infection, pus accumulation and swelling. This phenomenon is called anorectal or anal abscess. Anal abscess can develop in different areas such as inside the anus, or in the rectal area. These abscesses can be deep or on the surface of the skin.

Symptoms of anorectal abscess

This disease, which can be easily diagnosed by a doctor, has the following symptoms:

  • Constant pain with pain aggravated by sitting
  • Irritation and inflammation of the skin around the anus
  • painful constipation
  • diarrhea
  • Fever and chills caused by severe infections deep in the skin
  • restlessness
  • Anorexia
  • Warmth at the site of infection due to the response of the immune system to infections
Who is more susceptible to this disease?

Anorectal abscess is generally common in men and people with intestinal diseases. People with the following conditions have a higher risk of developing an anorectal abscess:

  • Patients with colitis
  • Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
  • Patients with diabetes
  • Patients with diverticulitis
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Taking medications such as prednisone
  • Unsafe sex
  • Injury from the tip of the enema device
